Hello Everyone!
Welcome to our first ever blog, and it felt fitting to establish a value that we hold dearly here in Sports Excitement and would be beneficial for you and everyone in youth sports. Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, inducted in 2007 and with a .338 career batting average over 20 MLB seasons, once said:
“You can’t live on what you did yesterday. Discipline means showing up every day ready to
work.”
Whether you’re on the field, sidelines, or just moving towards your personal goals, putting that
effort into the things you love and want to achieve with the proper amount of discipline, turns
that effort into results. Even if you had victories or failures within the past, it’s truly about the
work you put in consistently every day that will build tomorrow’s success and further into the
goals you want to achieve.
You may wonder, “How can I start on being a more disciplined person?” or “How can I stay
consistent when it’s hard for me to do so?” Just like how you want to change anything either for
personal or organizational reasons, it’s always best to implement those changes or additions in
small increments, so you can use those changes as small stepping stones that help you or your
team gain momentum and implement more and more changes slowly. Once those changes
happen, reevaluate the effect of those changes. If they are comfortable with you, stick with it but
if you continue to struggle, it’s best to get help and advice from someone who’s more
experienced than you.
Another way to keep discipline is setting a regular routine that you adhere to. Having that
schedule is important due to the fact that motivation will eventually fluctuate. There will be days
that you’ll start questioning why you do what you do, and maybe not even want to do what you
like to do. There will be times where you start having lows within what you do but having that
discipline instilled within you will help you push forward into a form that you would want to
achieve with the time you spend having that routine keeps you in check for you to achieve your
goals. All with these systems in place, you’ll be a consistent player, coach or parent for the sport
that you enjoy being in the most, and remember, it’s all the little things in life that matter the most.
